On which and how many devices can WhatsApp Business be used simultaneously?

With the multi-device feature of WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business Messenger, you can link up to four additional devices to your account at the same time. It does not matter whether they are smartphones, PCs or laptops. While smartphones need to have the app installed to use WhatsApp Business, WhatsApp can be used on your laptop or PC either via the desktop app or via WhatsApp Web. 

How to set up WhatsApp Business on multiple devices

Setting up the WhatsApp Business account on multiple devices is relatively simple. The setup differs depending on whether you want to link additional smartphones or computers. We have put together both sets of instructions for you. With them, you can link your WhatsApp Business account to multiple devices in no time!

How to set up WhatsApp Business on multiple smartphones

Follow the steps described to use the WhatsApp Business account on multiple smartphones at the same time:

  1. First, you need to make sure that you have the latest version of the WhatsApp Business app installed on all devices where you want to use the account.
  2. Open the app on your main device and go to "Settings" > "Linked devices". On some phones, the "Linked Devices" selection is also displayed directly as a menu item next to "Settings".
  3. Scan the QR code displayed on the screen with your other smartphone.
  4. Once you scan the code, your WhatsApp Business account will be automatically activated on the other phone.
  5. Repeat this process for all other phones on which you want to use the account. The maximum number is currently limited to 4 devices.

How to set up WhatsApp Business on your desktop PC or laptop

Setup with Windows operating system

The Windows Desktop application is downloaded from the Microsoft Store. The desktop application works only with Windows 8.1 operating system or higher.

After the application has been downloaded, it has to be started and the setup process has to be performed. After a while, a QR code will appear here as well. The following steps must then be taken:

● Open WhatsApp business app on smartphone

● Open the menu (Android) or the settings (iOS).

● Select "Add device" to open the scanner

● Scan the code on the computer screen with the smartphone


Setup with macOS operating system

WhatsApp Desktop can also be installed on Apple computers. The application can be downloaded from the App Store, and the setup is identical to the Windows app.

Download the application, launch it and perform the setup process. After a while, a QR code will appear. The following steps must then be taken:

● Open WhatsApp business app on smartphone

● Open the menu (Android) or the settings (iOS).

● Select "Add device" to open the scanner

● Scan the QR code on the computer screen with the smartphone

This way, enterprise customers can link the WhatsApp Business account to both Windows and macOS devices via WhatsApp Desktop.

Instructions: Remove linked WhatsApp multi-device devices again

If you have already linked devices, it is certainly also helpful to know how to remove them again. To do so, follow these instructions:

  1. Open the WhatsApp settings on your phone.
  2. Select the "Linked devices" menu item.
  3. Select the device to be removed.
  4. Click on "log out". The link is now removed.

Tips when using the WhatsApp Business account on multiple devices

Once you have linked your WhatsApp Business account to multiple devices, you can use the messenger without any problems. However, keep in mind that some features are only available on the main device. These include creating backups and changing settings, for example.

Here are some tips and hints on how to best use your WhatsApp Business account on multiple devices:

  1. Use the main device for all important activities such as creating backups and changing settings.
  2. Creating or viewing broadcast lists works only on the main device, not on companion devices.
  3. Use the other devices for everyday use, such as sending and receiving messages.
  4. Use the "Synchronize" function to ensure that all devices are at the same level. This function can be found under "Settings" > "WhatsApp Web/ Desktop" > "Synchronize".
  5. Use a stable Internet connection to ensure that your messages are delivered quickly and reliably and that your devices are always in sync with each other.
